Master
Men B race now has a waitlist for 15 racers.
2012
RACE CHANGES:
Men
Cat 1: The Men Pro,1 race is now an invitational team-only
event. Cat 1 riders can now enter the new Men 1,2 race.
Men
40+: Two Men 40+ races will be offered this year: Master
Men A and Master Men B. The Master Men A race is for Men
40+/50+/60+ with a Cat 1, 2 or 3 license and is a five-day
race. An overall general classification prize will be
awarded with additional general classification prizes
for 50+ and 60+.
The Master Men B race is for Men 40+/50+/60+ with Cat
3, 4 or 5 licenses and is a four-day race. An overall
general classification prize will be awarded with additional
general classification prizes for 50+ and 60+.
Men
Cat 4 & 5: The previous Men 4,5 race is now a Men
4 race only. This allows for a field of 125 instead of
75. If you are presently a Cat 5 racer, please consider
upgrading to a Cat 4 before May.
Women
3,4: Two Master competitions are now offered within the
Women 3,4 race. An overall general classification prize
will be awarded with additional general classification
prizes for 35+ and 45+.

THE
RACES:
Men
Pro,1; Women Pro,1,2; Men 1,2; Men 3 and Master Men A:
The 5-day stage race consists of 3 Road Races, an Individual
Time Trial and a Criterium. The format is as follows:
Stage 1: Silver City to Mogollon Road Race, Stage 2: The
Inner Loop Road Race, Stage 3: Tyrone Individual Time
Trials, Stage 4: Downtown Silver City Criterium and Stage
5: Gila Monster Road Race. The overall General Classification
winner will be the rider with the lowest overall time
for all the stages. The Men Pro,1 race is a part of the
2012 UCI American Tour Calendar and the 2012 USA Cycling
National Racing Calendar. The Women Pro,1,2 race is a
part of the 2012 USA Cycling National Racing Calendar.
Men
4, Master Men B and Women 3,4: The 4-day stage race consists
of 2 Road Races, an Individual Time Trial and a Criterium.
The format is as follows: Stage 1: The Inner loop Road
Race, Stage 2: Tyrone Individual Time Trials, Stage 3:
Downtown Silver City Criterium and Stage 4: Gila Monster
Road Race. The overall General Classification winner will
be the rider with the lowest overall time for all the
stages.
THE
26th ANNUAL SRAM TOUR OF THE GILA IS HELD UNDER USAC PERMIT.
SPECIAL
COMPETITIONS:
Men Pro,1: In addition to Individual Stage and General
Classification prizes, there will be a Team General Classification
competition. Teams must consist of 5 to 8 riders. No more
than 8 riders per team. There will also be a Sprinter's
competition, a Climber's competition and a U25 competition.
Women Pro,1,2: In addition to Individual Stage and General
Classification prizes, there will be a Team General Classification
competition. Team entry is encouraged, although individual
entry is also permitted. Teams must consist of 5 to 8
riders. No more than 8 riders from a team/club may enter,
either as individuals or a team. Composite teams may be
entered, but they must wear matching jerseys. There will
also be a Sprinter's competition, a Climber's competition
and a U26 competition.
Men 3/35+: Men 3 racers who are 35+ will be eligible for
the Men 3 overall prizes and a separate General Classification
prize.
Men 4/35+: Men 4 racers who are 35+ will be eligible for
the Men 4 overall prizes and a separate General Classification
prize.
Master Men A 40+/50+/60+: Racers in the Master Men A event
who are 50+ will be eligible for the Master Men A overall
prizes and a separate General Classification prize. Racers
who are 60+ will be eligible for the Master Men A overall
prizes, the 50+ prizes, and a separate General Classification
prize.
Master
Men B 40+/50+/60+: Racers in the Master Men B event who
are 50+ will be eligible for the Master Men B overall
prizes and a separate General Classification prize. Racers
who are 60+ will be eligible for the Master Men B overall
prizes, the 50+ prizes, and a separate General Classification
prize.
Women
3,4 35+/45+: Racers in the Women 3,4 event who are 35+
will be eligible for the Women 3,4 prizes and a separate
General Classification prize. Racers who are 45+ will
be eligible for the Women 3,4 prizes, the 35+ prizes,
and a separate General Classification prize.
REGISTRATION
AND NUMBER PICK-UP SCHEDULE:
All
5-day Racers: Registration and number pick-up will be
at the Curious Kumquat, 111 E College Ave, from 12:00
noon until 5:00 pm - Tuesday, May 1, 2012. Number pick-up
only will be available on Wednesday morning, May 2nd,
from 7:00 am until 9:30 am, at the start location at Gough
Park.
All
4-day Racers: Registration and number pick-up will be
at Gila Hike & Bike, 103 E College Ave, from 5:00
pm until 9:00 pm - Wednesday, May 2, 2012. Late registration
and number pick-up will be available on Thursday morning,
May 3rd, at 7:15 am in front of the Buckhorn Saloon &
Opera House at the start line in Pinos Altos.
HOST
HOUSING:
Many
families in the Silver City area generously open up their
homes during the race. If you are interested in the host
housing program, you must have PAID REGISTRATION before
your request is considered. There is a non-refundable
$10 fee per person to be placed on the housing list. For

LOCATION
FINDING
US: Silver City is located in Southwest
New Mexico, about 50 miles north of Interstate 10. From
southern Arizona, take I-10 east to Lordsburg, NM, then
take NM 90 north to Silver City (45 miles). From Texas
take I-10 west to Deming, NM, and then take US180 north
to Silver City (55 miles). From Colorado take I-25 south
to NM 152(Hillsboro), proceed 75 miles west on NM 152
and US 180 to Silver City.
AIRPORTS:
There are several options when planning your flight to
Silver City. The closest national airport is in El Paso,
Texas (160 miles). From there, you may rent a car or catch
the Las Cruces Shuttle Service (1-800-288-1784) or the
Silver Stage Lines (800-522-0162). The next choice would
be Tucson, Arizona (210 miles) along with a car rental.
Thirdly, there is Albuquerque, New Mexico (250 miles).
You can either rent a car or arrange to fly on Great Lakes
Airlines to Grant County Airport which is 25 miles from
Silver City.
