The Tour of the Gila will take place April 19-23, 2017. Over 600 racers, along with their staff members and thousands of spectators will be part of this 5-day international event. This would not be possible without the generous support of our many sponsors. Businesses have found ‘Gila’ to be a valuable tool to market their business and reach out to the community. The organization is excited to partner with our sponsors to continue to provide the best experience possible for racers, both professional and amateur, and fans alike.

Silver City is the hub of an inclusive community settled within a small town that through guided growth, honors and preserves its historical, cultural, and natural heritage while facilitating jobs, health, and educational resources such that the residents and visitors may enjoy and protect the recreational opportunities of the area and high quality of life.
The Town of Silver City sits atop a site that has been home to Native American, Hispanic and Anglo settlers for hundreds of years, and these vibrant cultures fill an important part of the Town’s exciting present day. The town was founded in 1870, shortly after the discovery of silver ore deposits at Chloride Flats, and a bustling tent city quickly sprang to life. Today, Silver City is a bustling town of 10,000+ residents with a diverse business community, a four-year university and an award-winning historic downtown.
Grant County was created from Doña Ana County, New Mexico. An act of Territorial Legislature on January 1868 changed the name from San Vicente de La Cienega to Grant County in honor of General Ulysses S. Grant. The original county seat was Pinos Altos, but today it’s Silver City.
Grant County includes the Towns of Hurley, Silver City and Bayard; the village of Santa Clara, as well as Cliff, Gila, Hachita, the Mimbres Valley, Pinos Altos and Hanover. As of 2010, the population was 29,514 and has a total area of 3,968 square miles. Major area industry is mining and tourism. Folks have been living and working in this part of the Southwest for more than 1,200 years. Now our unique combination of climate, lifestyle, environment and opportunity are drawing new visitors and residents from around the world!
Official Techical Support
There are of course various reasons why we, at Shimano, are involved in professional cycling.
The first and most important reason is to give something back for the sport that gives us so much. Shimano’s heritage, heart and passion lies in cycling. We are passionate followers and fans of professional cycling and want to support teams to achieve their goals. Those goals don’t necessarily have to be winning a World Championship or Tour de France, they can simply be to achieve the best possible performances. We support professional teams with our products which we believe help them win races. But it doesn’t stop there. We train the mechanics to use our products as they are designed to make sure they work perfectly. We also visit a great number of cycling events to offer technical support to both professional athletes and other participants.
